Lisa Haskell

Lisa Haskell (b. 1969, Abington, Pennsylvania) received her BFA in 2D Fine Art from Moore College of Art & Design. She is a mixed media artist and arts educator living and working in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Philadelphia area and is held in numerous private collections. Driven by curiosity, experimentation, and a deep appreciation for the act of making, Lisa creates works that explore memory, nostalgia, and the emotional resonance of color, material, and form.

My most recent work explores the abstract terrain of memory and nostalgia. I’m interested in the way color, shape, and material can express emotion – how certain palettes become tied to specific moments in time, and how memory can feel both vivid and unreachable at once. Nostalgia serves as an entry point to the work, not as a literal retelling of the past, but as a way of connecting to an experience. Through minimal compositions and bold, simplified forms, I experiment with expressive color, layering sheer washes and textures to build the surface of a piece. Fragments emerge while other elements remain obscured beneath the surface. Color functions as both structure and emotion, with vibrant hues coming together like a familiar recipe for expression. I’m drawn to quietness, to what exists underneath noise, and to the overwhelming pull of wanting to return to a place, a feeling, or a version of time that can no longer fully exist. Each piece becomes an attempt to capture something simultaneously remembered, imagined, and longed for.
