The dictionary defines ‘ah’ as an expression used to describe delight, relief, regret or contempt. Our everyday world is filled to the brim with objects, people, and places that demand nothing more of us than the acknowledgment of their existence. In my work I am trying to show you all the ‘ah’ that I see.
The process of choosing, sorting, and arranging fragments into a visual story, particularly with collage, provides a creative means to set free my anxiety with the world’s current events. Collage is more often a playful and whimsical activity for me compared to the academic forces that intertwine, and at times take command, when I am painting. In the process of making my work, be it a painting or collage, I find that it becomes imbued with mood and story that I myself don’t always recognize. This is why I make art – to cope, look inside myself and create a language that will make sense of living in this world.
