Colleen Hammond

Colleen is an artist living in Philadelphia who makes collages and oil paintings. She is also committed to figure drawing with charcoal and pastel, a practice she started during her classical studies and which she continues on her own and through independent course work. In her collages, she creates abstract compositions, builds context, or tells stories through a process that is both free and purposeful, which makes them different from her more realistic paintings. Her paintings often show moody skies, seascapes, and landscapes, a feeling that also comes through in her portraits. She hopes her art inspires curiosity, wonder, and a personal emotional reaction in everyone who sees it.
Colleen studied and graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and went on to receive a BFA with a major in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania. Her paintings and collages have been included in many exhibitions, and she has won awards for her work that include the Caroline Gibbons Granger Award and the Berthe M. Goldberg Award of Excellence.
